Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)
The Northwest Territories’ Nominee Program is an immigration program operated on behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories with Citizenship and Immigration Canada to fast-track the processing of an application for permanent residency.
The Nominee Program helps strengthen the Northwest Territories economy by attracting qualified individuals to fill critical labour shortages and promote business development. The Nominee Program can assist employers in recruiting and retaining foreign workers and can help foreign workers and their families make the Northwest Territories their permanent home.
Individuals nominated by the Northwest Territories are eligible to apply for permanent residency through Citizenship and Immigration Canada as part of the Provincial Nominee stream. The processing of a nominee’s application for permanent residence through Citizenship and Immigration Canada is generally faster than other immigration classes. Citizenship and Immigration Canada makes final decisions on the applications
Skilled Worker
This stream is designed to attract qualified individuals that will assist with shortages of skilled workers in the Northwest Territories. This stream is for skilled occupations for which formal education and/or specialized training is required. These occupations are within the National Occupational Classification, Skill Levels 0, A, and B.
Critical Impact Worker
This stream is intended to assist employers with critical labour shortages that cannot be filled by local or Canadian residents and is designed to increase the labour pool for entry level jobs described within the National Occupational Classification skill levels C and D.
Foreign Nationals must have worked in the same position for six (6) months and be in compliance with their temporary foreign worker permit.
Northwest Territories Express Entry
The Northwest Territories Express Entry allows the Government of the Northwest Territories to use the CIC Express Entry system to help address labour market shortage through the recruitment of foreign nationals.
This new Northwest Territories Express Entry stream will help Territorial employers meet their need for skilled workers. Eligible applications for the Northwest Territories Express Entry will receive priority processing and if nominated by the Northwest Territories, candidates will quickly receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency
The Northwest Territories Express Entry stream is for prospective foreign nationals who have met the mandatory eligibility criteria for CIC’s Express Entry Pool and have been accepted into the Express Entry Pool.
Once accepted into the Express Entry Pool candidates will receive a CIC Express Entry Profile Number and a Job Seeker Validation Code.
Once you have received this information from CIC you must also:
- Meet the eligibility criteria for the Skilled Worker Stream of the Northwest Territory Nominee Program; and
- Express your interest in immigrating to the Northwest Territories.
